Málaga airport transfers

Buses, the C1 train, coaches, taxis and ride apps — with 2026 fares and journey times.

Few European airports are this easy to leave: a train station sits directly opposite arrivals, the airport express bus stops outside the doors, and the resorts line up along one coastal corridor. Here’s every way out of AGP, compared honestly.

The C1 train: the best €1.80 in Málaga

  • The Cercanías C1 line (Málaga Centro Alameda ↔ Fuengirola) has its station directly opposite T3 arrivals — escalator down in the plaza.
  • Journey times published by Aena: Fuengirola 34 min · Benalmádena 18 min · Málaga María Zambrano (AVE connection) 8 min · Málaga centre 12 min.
  • Fares: €1.80–€2.70 depending on distance — airport to the city centre is €1.80. Contactless bank cards work at the turnstiles (tap in and out).
  • Runs roughly every 20–30 minutes. For Benalmádena and Fuengirola it beats every other option on price and often on time.

EMT bus A: the airport express

  • Line A runs airport ↔ Málaga city centre (Plaza General Torrijos, Paseo del Parque, Alameda Principal, the train/bus station). The stop is outside T3 arrivals.
  • Fare: €4 single — the airport bus is not covered by multi-journey cards. Runs roughly 07:00 to midnight, every 20–25 minutes; allow 15–30 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Take it if your hotel is near one of its city stops and you’d rather not change at María Zambrano.

Avanza coaches: the western coast

  • Coaches leave from the forecourt outside T3 arrivals: Marbella in about 45 minutes, Estepona in about 75. This is the only public transport that reaches the western Costa del Sol directly — no train runs that way.
  • Buses sell out in peak season: book online in advance in July and August, especially for Marbella.

Taxis: metered, no fixed fares

  • Málaga taxis are metered — there are no official fixed point-to-point airport fares, so treat any published “fixed price” with suspicion. The rank is outside arrivals; the meter is the price.
  • Traveller guides report roughly €20 to the city centre, plus a small supplement for airport pick-ups and a per-piece luggage supplement — all hedged figures that shift with traffic and tariff changes.
  • For the long runs (Marbella, Estepona, Nerja), a fixed-quote pre-booked transfer is usually calmer than watching a meter climb.

VTC: Uber, Bolt and Cabify

  • Ride-hailing apps operate at AGP; pick-up is outside arrivals. App pricing is usually below the taxi meter and you see the price before you ride.
  • At very peak times (Saturday changeover days in August) surge pricing can erase the advantage — the train doesn’t surge.
