Car rental at Málaga Airport
Desks in the Terminal 2 basement — and the contract traps to dodge before you sign.
The Costa del Sol rewards drivers — Marbella’s old town, Ronda in the mountains, Nerja’s caves — and AGP is the easiest place on the coast to pick up a car: the rental desks are grouped together in the Terminal 2 basement, a short walk from arrivals. The catch is never the driving; it’s the contract.
The on-site companies
These operators are reported to have desks in the T2 basement (S2 level), with the cars parked in the adjacent rental area of the car park:
Avis · Budget · Hertz · Europcar · Sixt · Enterprise
Other brands — including Firefly, Alamo and National — are also reported at AGP, and some companies operate from nearby facilities via courtesy shuttle. The desk line-up changes as concessions are renewed, so treat any list as a guide and check the boards when you arrive. Follow the rental-car signs from the arrivals hall in T3; the terminals operate as one connected complex.
What it costs in 2026
Rates swing hard with the season: an economy car booked months ahead for a February week can cost a fraction of a walk-up August rental, when the cheapest classes sell out. We don’t publish fixed price tables because fares change constantly — the honest move is to compare live quotes and judge the total with insurance, not the headline daily rate. As a rule of thumb, booking ahead and travelling outside July–August cuts the bill dramatically.
Five rules before you sign
- Book ahead. Walk-up peak-season rates are far higher than advance prices, and economy classes sell out.
- Choose full-to-full fuel. Pre-paid “full-to-empty” fuel is a margin machine — you’ll never get fair value for what’s left in the tank.
- Sort excess insurance before you fly. Standalone annual excess cover is a fraction of the desk upsell price.
- Photograph everything. Every panel, every wheel, the dashboard mileage and fuel — timestamped, before you leave the parking area.
- Know the toll situation. The A-7 autovía is toll-free; the parallel AP-7 autopista may have tolled sections. Check before you drive — and never pay for a “toll package” you don’t need.
